How to make it

  1. Wash the potatoes and boil them in their skins for 20–25 minutes, until a fork goes in easily. Drain them, let them cool enough to handle, then peel them and slice them into rounds.
  2. Meanwhile, boil the eggs for 9–10 minutes from the moment the water starts to simmer. Cool them in cold water, peel them and slice them. Preheat the oven to 190°C (conventional, no fan).
  3. Grease a baking dish of about 20 × 25 cm with roughly 10 g of the butter. Lay half of the potatoes in it and season with salt and pepper. Add the egg slices, then half of the sour cream and half of the cheese.
  4. Cover with the rest of the potatoes. Spread over the remaining sour cream, sprinkle with the rest of the cheese and dot the remaining 20 g butter on top in small pieces.
  5. Bake for 25–30 minutes, until the cheese on top is browned. Let the dish settle for 10 minutes before dividing it into four servings.

Boil the potatoes and the eggs at the same time. For layers that hold their shape, choose firm, waxy potatoes and slice them into rounds about 5 mm thick.
